Ariadna Matamoros-Fernández

Ariadna Matamoros-Fernández is a Lecturer in Digital Media in the School of Communication at QUT, and member of the Digital Media Research Centre (DMRC). She holds an MA from the Digital Methods Initiative, University of Amsterdam, and a BA in Journalism from the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

Her research focuses on the influence of digital media technologies in everyday communication, with particular attention to the dynamics of race and racism on different digital platforms. This has included studies of right-wing and discriminatory practices across platforms, the role of visual content in relation to hate speech and platform governance, and the influence of algorithms in shaping everyday life. Ariadna’s research has been published in Information, Communication & Society, International Journal of Communication, Convergence and other international, peer-reviewed journals.
